The Matobo Hills have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.
Beyond the thousands of rock formations sculpted by erosion that gave the area its name (Matobo meaning “bald head” in Ndebele), the hills hold thousands of Matabele rock paintings, some of them remarkably fine, notably in the caves of Nswatugi, Bambata, Inanke and Silozwane.
There's an undeniable sense of energy as you make your way through the region.
Even more so from the summit of Malindidzimu (the Hill of Spirits), better known as View of the World, where Cecil Rhodes rests for eternity.
An essential stop during your time in the Matobo Hills, offering a magnificent sunset over a 360° panoramic landscape. A moment not to be missed!
