Before El Lugar was founded, the same family had farmed the estate for over 80 years. The primary mission was to regenerate and preserve El Lugar for future generations.
Tremendous efforts went into regenerating the land, and a remarkable transformation took place. Biodiversity flourished, and a wide range of bird species and wildlife returned. In keeping with nature, the hotel was developed thoughtfully, with preservation as the top priority. Advanced sustainability measures were central to its development. The vision was to offer luxury without sacrificing the raw beauty of this untouched place.
El Encanto is more than just an equestrian centre. It is a thriving 500-hectare ecological farm, home to horses and 160 head of cattle. The El Encanto reserve spans 300 hectares set aside exclusively for environmental protection, within a tropical forest located inside the North Atlantic biological corridor, bordering Braulio Carrillo National Park. At 200 metres above sea level, the rainforest’s microclimate shelters natural aquifers and thriving biodiversity, including noble tree species such as Guarumo, Bota Rama, Sotacaballo, and Manú, as well as rare bird and wildlife species.
The rooms are particularly spacious, offering a bright and airy space. They are adorned with solid wood beams and hand-made patterned tiles. Doors, windows and mosquito screens were handcrafted on site by local artisans.
