Tanzanie
Ruaha
Following a philosophy of lightness, the camp minimises its environmental footprint.
Run by an experienced team, the camp is strategically positioned in optimal locations, timed with precision to move in step with the rhythm of nature.
This rustic mobile camp is meticulously designed to allow you to venture into the most remote corners of Tanzania — the Ruaha and Ugalla regions, lesser-visited areas still waiting to reveal their secrets.
Your walking safari experience typically lasts three nights, though longer safaris are possible.
The walking safari is always exclusive, with a minimum of two and a maximum of six guests.
The camp's central areas consist of a proper campfire and a large communal dining table (under a tarpaulin if necessary) where you'll share meals with your guide. The kitchen tent and staff tents are a short distance away.
From early morning, the campfire is lit and the hot drink of your choice awaits as soon as you step out of your tent. You'll have a jug of hot water beside your washbasin and can shower if you wish (you'll be asked well in advance whether you'd prefer to shower in the morning or at the end of the day).
You'll be accompanied by a team of five, including an experienced head guide (one of the best guides in the country) who serves as camp manager, together with an armed ranger and three staff members — a cook, a waiter, and a tent attendant.
They have their own vehicle to transport the camp. A 4x4 vehicle and your driver/guide will be at your disposal for transfers.
Children are accepted from the age of 16.
The 4 tents are a comfortable size, each able to accommodate two people in single camp beds with sheets and duvets.
The tents are tall enough to stand in and have excellent all-round ventilation, as the canvas is lined with mosquito netting.
Weather permitting, the fly sheet can be removed to allow you to sleep under the stars.
Sanitary facilities include a “safari” basin on a tripod outside your tent and, a little further away, a fully enclosed safari shower with a wooden standing platform, as well as a safari “dry flush” toilet.
Walking itineraries at the Expeditionary Walking Camp are generally set over three days.
Walks start at dawn, both to make the most of the coolest part of the day and because wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk. A day’s walk lasts between 3 and 6 hours, depending on your fitness level, with plenty of opportunities to stop, observe and get to know the surrounding flora and fauna.
