À vivre

Jebel Akhdar, or “Green Mountain”, is the central massif of the Hajar Mountains that stretch across northern Oman. It takes its name from the lush vegetation and terraced crops that cover its slopes, creating a striking contrast with the warm, arid tones that dominate the rest of the sultanate. Thanks to regular rainfall at altitude, local agriculture thrives: farmers grow grapes, pomegranates, apricots, walnuts and peaches, and distil rose water at around 1,800 metres.
While the region is mainly inhabited by descendants of the Nabhani dynasty, which ruled Oman from the 12th to the 17th century, it is also home to rock art sites dating back as far as 6,000 years. Exploring these remains on foot, through the mountain villages, offers a unique experience, steeped in both serenity and history.
From the summit of “Diana's Point”, named in honour of the Princess of Wales's visit in the 1980s, the cool summer air accompanies a spectacular view, considered one of the finest in Oman.
