The Col de Bavella is considered the most beautiful pass in Corsica for the scope and richness of its panorama. Located at the heart of the Corsica regional nature park, 10 km from Zonza, the Aiguilles de Bavella tower over the Col de Bavella at 1,218m altitude, linking the Alta Rocca to Corsica's eastern coast.
The site is characterised by great rock ramparts of striking shapes, in colours ranging from the lightest red to the darkest grey, and by Laricio pines.
Several routes, from short walks to full-day hikes, are possible:
- Towards U Tafonu di u Cumpuleddu, more commonly known as the Trou de la Bombe: a pleasant hike with 200m of elevation gain, passing through a superb pine forest. Allow 3h round trip.
- To the Croix de Leccia: this hike with 200m of elevation gain is difficult. Wear sturdy hiking boots, as the path is steep and rocky. Allow 2h round trip.
Alpine variant GR20: for experienced hikers. A marked route with 500m of elevation gain, including a tricky section secured by a cable. Allow 4h round trip to Punta di u Pargulu, or 7h for the full loop returning via the GR20.
- To the Paliri refuge: a fairly easy hike with 400m of elevation gain, starting from the Fontaine du Cannone. Allow 4h round trip.
- From Incudine to the Col de Bavella runs the famous GR20 trail. After reaching the Asinau refuge (1,536m), it passes at the foot of the Aiguilles de Bavella, in the Rizzanese valley.
A few rules to observe during your visit:
Before setting out, check the weather forecast and fire risk.
Stay on marked trails.
Do not touch or frighten the mouflons. Keep dogs on a leash. Certain behaviours cause serious damage to the site and threaten the long-term survival of its species and habitats.
No open fires.
Carry out your waste and sort it.
