À vivre

From November to March, Québec lives to the rhythm of a bracing season. And since the snow doesn’t last forever, you might as well make the most of it while it falls! Frost or rime, blowing snow or bright sunshine, everything becomes an excuse for fun and celebration. Come discover the lively, entertaining activities Québecers have devised to tame winter’s whims! Skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dog sledding or ice fishing? The choice is yours!

Starting in November, the mercury hovers around freezing and the chances of snowfall increase. From mid-December to mid-March, temperatures range between -5°C and -20°C, though they can sometimes shift abruptly within 24 hours. But Québecers don’t let that get them down! Join them for the many events that punctuate the season: Christmas markets, Montréal’s Fête des Neiges, hockey tournaments, Igloofest, the Ice Festival, the Québec Winter Carnival, ice canoe races, and more. The colder it gets, the warmer the atmosphere!

A few ideas for winter activities:
- A trip to the Québec Winter Carnival
- Outdoor Nordic baths
- Shopping in Montréal’s underground city
- Drinks at the Ice Hotel in Québec City
- Watching seals and their pups off the Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Our seasonal advice

While the first snowfalls in Québec generally occur as early as November, a certain depth of snow and/or ice is still needed for winter activities to run smoothly. After all, you can’t go snowmobiling on a few half-melted flakes... That’s why we recommend travelling between mid-January and mid-March to enjoy the best conditions for a full winter experience.
