Malkata House is organised around a collection of suites spread across several levels.
On the ground floor, some open onto the garden and the pool.
Upstairs, balconies, living rooms and terraces gradually reveal the desert and the mountains.
The garden forms the living heart of the house: the pool, shaded areas and a bar nestle among palm trees, mango trees and jasmine.
The restaurant serves Egyptian cuisine prepared on site by chef Hassan and his team, using local ingredients and fresh, organic produce.
Children are accepted, with no stated minimum age. Malkata House, however, was designed primarily with adults in mind.
Certain amenities and room layouts may be less suited to young children.
Four categories are available: Ground Floor Suite, Middle Floor Suite, Top Floor Suite and Family Suites, the latter combining two interconnecting suites.
The first three accommodate up to three people, with King, Twin or Triple beds; the family configuration accommodates up to six people.
Depending on the floor, they favour either garden access or views over the desert and mountains. All combine vaulted architecture, space and contemporary comfort, including air conditioning, a mini-fridge, a kettle and a television.
The upper suites benefit from particularly open views over the Valley of the Queens and the Malkata landscape.
Malkata House is an ideal base for exploring the treasures of Luxor.
Nearby, the Valley of the Kings, Medinet Habu, Deir el-Medina and the Valley of the Queens tell the story of pharaonic Egypt, while Karnak and the Temple of Luxor can be discovered on the other bank of the Nile.
Private tours with an Egyptologist guide can be arranged on a tailor-made basis, as well as excursions to Aswan and Cairo. Then comes the time to slow down.
Return to the stillness of the garden, a few lengths in the pool and the silence of the desert surrounding the house.
