À vivre

After dinner, as Lapland sinks into darkness, we set off in search of one of the finest spectacles the Far North has to offer. Equipped to face the winter temperatures, we mount our snowmobiles and gradually leave the last lights behind to venture into the night.

As we advance, the headlights illuminate only the snow-covered track ahead, while the dark immensity of Lapland surrounds us. This journey is already part of the experience: a sense of setting out to meet a phenomenon that can be neither predicted nor summoned.

After several kilometres, we reach our camp, set up in a location carefully chosen for aurora observation. Inside the tipi, the warmth of the fire contrasts with the cold of the Arctic night. Around the flames, we exchange a few stories about Lapland, its history, its traditions, and the fascination with the Far North shared by those who live there. These moments of sharing add another dimension to the wait, while everyone keeps an eye on the sky.

Outside, one of the most seasoned photographers has been watching closely for several hours. Accustomed to reading the smallest signs, he scans the horizon, looking for the slightest shift in the sky, waiting for the moment the light begins to appear.

Then suddenly, this time, the conditions align: the aurora is there.

A hot chocolate in hand, bundled up like explorers of the Far North, we step out into the freezing night. Eyes lift, conversations fade, and everyone searches for the first traces of light across the vast sky.

Gradually, green hues appear, faint at first, then increasingly present. Veils of light begin their dance above us, drifting slowly through the darkness and turning this night into an unforgettable experience.
