Expedition voyages to observe orcas and whales, 3 days and 6 days.
From late October to mid-January, huge shoals of herring draw hundreds of cetaceans to northern Norway. Depending on the day, you may observe orcas and humpback whales, sometimes in groups of several dozen individuals.
You live aboard a boat throughout the expedition and set out each day in search of them. When conditions allow, you can also enter the water to swim or snorkel close to the cetaceans, always with respect for their environment.
Sightings naturally depend on weather conditions and the presence of herring. When conditions align, several swims may be offered in the course of a single day.
A typical day on board
Wake-up at 7:30am
Breakfast from 8:00 to 8:30am
The boat leaves port around 9:00am.
You head into the fjord in search of orcas.
Some days you spot the animals immediately and can start swimming right away.
Other days, it takes hours to find the orcas. Once the orcas are located, you move to the small boat (a rigid inflatable equipped with a drysuit) and keep your camera ready for the action.
You typically stay in the inflatable for two to three hours, then return to the main boat for hot soup, a coffee break and lunch.
At dusk, the boat heads to the nearest bay or harbour to spend the night.
Dinner on board at 6:00pm, followed by a good night’s sleep, rocked by the sea and, in season, the northern lights.
