Zambia
South Luangwa
The camp offers 6 brick, thatched-roof cottages in a traditional style, with uninterrupted views over the river.
The six original rondavels have been upgraded to include spacious bathrooms, but the atmosphere and room fittings remain true to the original "old-fashioned" feel.
Each room has clear views of the river, whether from the comfort of your bed or the veranda chairs.
Meals are freshly prepared and served in the dining room or out in the bush.
From the dining room, you can watch large herds of elephants crossing the river just upstream of the camp as you dine.
The bar and lounge are set between a large termite mound and a lagoon — discreet and comfortable, yet taking full advantage of the abundant wildlife that comes down to drink at the lagoon. In the evening, lions and leopards can sometimes be heard splashing off into the cool water.
All cottages have a private bathroom and a terrace, with each room opening onto this remarkable view of South Luangwa.
Your days may include: day and night 4x4 safaris, walking safaris (accompanied by an experienced armed guide), bush breakfasts, picnics, boat safaris on the Luangwa River (from late December to April), visits to Kawaza village and the surrounding schools, walks through the lively community around Mfuwe (the small “dukas” (shops), the market, the bars, the craftspeople...)
The open-top Toyota Landcruisers are fitted with 2 rows of seats (three rows for groups/families) - a guaranteed “window” seat for all guests (i.e., two people per row).
