Capitol Reef is a park where few tourists stop, too eager to reach Moab. Yet it deserves a pause, especially around Fruita. This area is rich in geological curiosities of every kind: arches, canyons, distinctive mountains, colored cliffs, historic sites — all easily accessible.
Among the most notable are reddish and white rock formations lined up like a procession. The site, called Cathedral Valley, leaves no doubt about their scale. There's also Waterpocket Fold, a tectonic fold stretching over 160 km, one of the geological marvels of this rich region of the American West.
Little visited within this wild park, these formations retain the authenticity they held millions of years ago, shaped solely by the one force that rules on Earth: time.
