À vivre

Where the southern tip of Alaska stretches between the Pacific Ocean and Canada, the 5,000 square kilometres of Glacier Bay National Park draw adventurers from far and wide. Visitors can climb one of 175 mountains, including Mount Cleveland, the highest point at 3,190 metres. You can also fish in one of 762 lakes, including the 15-kilometre-long Lake McDonald, and admire one of the 25 recorded glaciers. Now is the time to commit these glaciers to memory, as specialists predict they will have melted by 2030 due to climate change. Set off hiking along the Grinnell Glacier or Iceberg Lake trails. To round off your visit, stay within the park in a historic hotel, a rustic cabin, or a remote chalet.

With over 1.3 million hectares of rugged mountains, moving glaciers, wild coastlines and deep fjords, Glacier Bay National Park is an ideal place to take in the beauty of Alaska.

From the highest mountain summits down to the sea, Glacier Bay offers a range of activities that are both spectacular and inspiring. To get there, you'll need to take a boat or floatplane from Alaska's capital, Juneau, east of the park. Begin your adventure in this UNESCO World Heritage site at Bartlett Cove by renting a sea kayak to paddle toward the magnificent McBride Glacier. You can also take a guided boat trip to Marble Island, where you can watch puffins and sea lions lounging along the coast. Better still, board a plane for an aerial tour of the park's 11 massive glaciers.
