Nyungwe rainforest is among the oldest in Africa, known for its waterfalls (which feed the Nile and the Congo), its vegetation and abundant wildlife, and its viewpoints offering splendid vistas.
Established in 2004, the park is home to 75 mammal species and 310 bird species, living among the 200 tree species and roughly one hundred orchid species that grow here, perched on Rwanda's characteristic mountains.
It is best known for hosting 13 primate species, including Africa's largest troop of colobus monkeys, as well as several hundred chimpanzees, golden monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons (to name only the best known).
An arboreal richness with few equals, thriving branch by branch in this 40-metre-high montane canopy, the tallest in East Africa.
