When the Amazon River floods during the rainy season, it forms the renowned flooded forest known as Igapó. Water levels can rise by nearly fifteen metres above their lowest point, recorded during the dry season.
To explore this watery, vegetation-filled labyrinth, there's nothing quite like a canoe expedition.
Gliding silently between the submerged treetops offers an unparalleled experience. Landscapes, at times almost otherworldly, unfold before your eyes, while you have the chance to spot a rich and diverse array of wildlife: monkeys, sloths, tapirs taking refuge in the trees for weeks at a time, and a multitude of birds such as toucans, parrots, herons, woodpeckers and birds of prey.
An exceptional site for tropical wildlife enthusiasts, and birdwatchers in particular!
