Hike at Topes de Collantes, along the “Gruta Nengoa” trail, with a local French-speaking guide.
Above Trinidad in the Escambray mountain range, the magnificent Topes de Collantes natural park is a vast forest at 700 meters in altitude. Once a refuge for Che’s rebels during the revolution from 1958 onward, and later for anti-Castro fighters, it now stands as a fine example of Cuba’s natural richness. The vegetation is lush, with no less than 110 km2 to explore in the shade of dense growth. Coffee trees, eucalyptus, bamboo, palms, pines, orchids… share the space with a host of animals, mainly birds endemic to the island, including wild parakeets, the Tocororo, the Carpintero, and the Cotorra (parrot). The trail leads to the “Gruta Nengoa”, where you can swim in the waterfalls.
