À vivre

Longyearbyen is surrounded by towering mountains and tundra, the vegetation typical of polar regions. There are many guided hikes to choose from, whether climbing peaks or exploring valleys. Some are short and suitable for everyone, while others are more physically demanding.

You can combine a hike with a photography expedition, or even fossil hunting. Your guide will be glad to share insights on the history and geology of Svalbard during a snack break on rugged terrain. You’ll learn a great deal about the local flora and fauna and get a closer look at the various rock formations.

Another option is a snowshoe hike during the polar night to track the northern lights — an unforgettable evening activity.

Whichever hike you choose, remember to wear proper footwear and bring your camera. Whatever route you take, you’re guaranteed a remarkable experience with an experienced guide and striking views.
