The salar experiences a dry winter from May to October and a rainy summer from December to March. It is extremely cold here, with a biting wind. At night, temperatures often drop to -25°C in June (the coldest months are June, July and August).
December to March is generally the rainy season in the Uyuni salt flat region. During this season, the salar can flood, and it isn’t always possible to reach Incahuasi hill by car, as it turns into an island. The landscape remains no less striking, with the sky reflected on the water; the salar becomes a giant mirror, an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts.
During June to August, temperatures can drop sharply across the salar and Lípez region, but the weather is normally dry and sunny.
