Sour, a town facing the Arabian Sea, seems to have stood still for centuries. Until the early 20th century, this port was the main trading hub with East Africa. Today, it is best known for its shipyard, specialising in the construction of traditional dhows that still sail Omani waters. For this reason, Sour remains Oman's largest traditional port.
Its old white houses are watched over by historic watchtowers lining the coast. This harmonious blend of past and present gives the town a distinctive, picturesque charm, making it one of the sultanate's finest.
