À vivre

Set against an unrivalled backdrop, facing the Martian-like relief of the Korannaberg, stands a dream lodge within South Africa’s largest private reserve: Tswalu, spanning more than 100,000 hectares, offering guests unforgettable safaris and the experience of African wildlife, malaria-free!

Conservation has always been the Oppenheimer family's top priority as owners of the reserve: their ambition is to “return the Kalahari to the Kalahari”. For several years now, they have been leading an extensive reintroduction programme for indigenous species such as the very rare desert black rhino. This is why only guests of the lodge and Tarkuni villa — around thirty privileged visitors at a time — can discover the beauty of the landscapes, the diversity of the wildlife and the serenity of what may well be South Africa's last great wilderness region.

Encounter more than 70 mammal species (including black rhino, cheetah, meerkat and black-maned lion), and over 230 bird species. Observe and photograph them under unique conditions, accompanied by your own dedicated tracker.

It's worth noting that Tswalu has no elephants and is therefore not a Big Five reserve. The safari experience here differs from that of classic South African reserves, focusing instead on the exceptional biodiversity of the Kalahari rather than the pursuit of the Big Five.
