2-day, 1-night excursion on Lake Titicaca, visiting the floating islands of Uros, the Llachon community and Taquile Island by private boat with a French-speaking guide
First stop at the floating islands of Uros. The Uros community lives on more than 63 artificial islands made of layered reed beds. The Uros call themselves kotsuña, “the lake village”. They have preserved certain traditions such as small-scale fishing, wild bird hunting, reed raft building and certain weaving techniques.
The crossing continues toward the Capachica peninsula, to the Llachón community, one of the communities on the peninsula. You will have the opportunity to take part in one of the participatory tourism experiences developed on the shores of Lake Titicaca, learning about local social life, the realities of daily hardship and hopes for the future. Housing here is rustic and living conditions decidedly precarious… yet set against a wonderful backdrop of terraced fields and the sky reflected in the lake, in a world that can feel as though it stopped moving long ago… one that evolves in its own way, on its own terms, and above all, at its own pace.
On arrival in late morning, a sailboat outing (30 to 45 min) around the peninsula (3 people per boat – this activity depends on the day’s weather conditions: wind and calm waters on the lake).
Rustic lunch with a local family.
In the afternoon, a walk around the community with your guide.
Dinner and overnight with a local family.
A French-speaking guide will accompany you throughout your visit or excursion / A mountain guide, rafting instructor or lecturer-guide will accompany you throughout your visit, excursion or activity
Breakfast with the local family, then departure for Taquile Island, a natural island offering insight into the daily life and customs of the lake’s inhabitants. Its 1,500 residents maintain their ancient traditions while incorporating tourism. Worth noting is their legendary hospitality and the quality of their weavings, with symmetrical patterns and vivid colours depicting Andean customs and beliefs.
Lunch at a rustic inn run by Taquile residents, featuring trout caught in the lake.
Return to Puno in the mid-afternoon.
