Hunting practices in Greenland
This is in no way intended to take a stance for or against hunting, but simply to give you an objective account of local customs and prepare you for what you may well see during your trip.
During your trip to Greenland, you will very likely come across hunted animals, skinned hides and meat drying in the sun, as well as firearms. Inuit people fish and hunt to live and feed themselves, to protect themselves from the cold, to make craft objects, and because they regard hunting as a traditional art. This practice is fully woven into their daily and family life.
Inuit communities hold a deep respect for nature and a thorough knowledge of the rules governing species renewal.
Some tourists wish to travel to Greenland to try their hand at hunting large mammals, but Étendues Sauvages does not organise this type of trip.
That said, if learning more about Inuit hunting interests you, some hunters will occasionally allow you to join them as part of your trip to observe this practice. This is strictly about observing their methods, not taking part in the activity itself.
