Kibale
Its nine exclusive chalets are built on raised platforms and connected by wooden walkways.
All face the lake, and after a long trek it's a pleasure to unwind on the terrace and take in the view.
The main structure, with its eucalyptus logs and fireplace, gives the lodge the feel of a Canadian cabin.
The lodge also has, across its 50 acres, sports grounds, a panoramic pool and a jetty for swimming in the lake (for the more daring).
Kyaninga Lodge offers 9 timber chalets built on stilts. Each one commands a stunning view of the lake and the sheer scale of the Rwenzori Mountains beyond. They are very spacious, with a sitting area and a private bathroom fitted with a bathtub.
The sitting area opens onto a private terrace where you can enjoy tea or coffee in the morning with a view over the lake and the Rwenzori Mountains. The private bathrooms feature marble basins set on Elgon olive-wood stands, freestanding clawfoot bathtubs and glass-enclosed showers. With modern solar power, you'll always have hot water and electrical charging points.
On the programme: a chimpanzee trek in Kibale, swimming in the lake, a walk around the lake, a hike through the forest, a walk through local villages to share moments with the community, and a full-day or half-day excursion to discover the Rift Valley.
