WILDLIFE SAFARI IN YELLOWSTONE
It all begins in Bozeman.
Winter is a season of large animals — bison, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, wolf, mule deer and coyote — set against vast landscapes. This is especially true of the Yellowstone wolves, which roam the Northern Range, including the Lamar Valley, sometimes referred to as the “American Serengeti”.
Over this two-day safari, you’ll make the most of the snow-covered scenery to observe wolves and other wildlife. Elk, the wolves’ most common prey, gather at lower elevations in large herds, making the wolves easier to spot as they track, hunt or feed in open terrain.
You’ll be accompanied by an expert naturalist and travel in vehicles fitted with observation hatches. Every element is in place to give you the best possible conditions for observing not only the animals themselves, but also their behavior and relationships.
Over your 3 nights in the area, you’ll spend one night in rustic but comfortable lodging, ideally positioned for easy access to the wildlife-rich Lamar Valley.

FROM SKIING TO DOG SLEDDING
Set in the stunning Gallatin Valley, between Big Sky Mountain and Yellowstone, Lone Mountain Ranch is one of the great ranches of the American West, perfectly positioned to experience the best of winter in this remarkable corner of Montana.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an expert, the Nordic skiing around the ranch is world-class, with something for everyone across more than 85 km of groomed trails through magnificent terrain. Snowshoeing is another excellent way to explore the Greater Yellowstone snowbound ecosystem, and tracking the trails by moonlight is a remarkable experience.
Snow conditions permitting, you’re right at the doorstep of Big Sky, one of Montana’s best ski mountains, with more terrain than any other resort in North America and nearly 1,800 meters of vertical drop.
End your stay at Big Sky with a memorable experience: gliding behind a team of twelve Alaskan huskies on a dog sled. You’ll of course be guided by an experienced musher, but you’ll be surprised how quickly you find yourself at the helm, steering your sled along the snowy trails.

WINTER SPORTS AT ROCK CREEK
End your Montana winter getaway in style with a stay at the remarkable Rock Creek Ranch, where you can set out on your own adventures while treating yourself to one of the country’s most outstanding escapes. Whether you’re lodged in the main building or in a private log cabin along Rock Creek, you’ll stay in the greatest comfort, and after a day of winter enjoyment, you can unwind by the fire, enjoy an exceptional table, and share the day’s adventures at the Silver Dollar Saloon.
Under the winter sun, there’s no shortage of activities to fill your days, from snowmobile expeditions to skating on the ranch’s pond, where you’ll of course have your own cabin with hot chocolate to warm up. For the young (and the young at heart!), head to Elk Ridge for a turbocharged sledding run.
If Big Sky isn’t celebrated enough in international ski circles, then Discovery Ski Area, just thirty-five minutes from the ranch, is a true hidden gem — and once again, you can plan your outing around the snow conditions.
