Journey through West Iceland: Húsafell, the Silver Circle and the Snæfellsnes peninsula

Example of a tailor-made journey, fully customisable

Country

Islande

Suggested duration

6 days / 5 nights

Ideal periods

June to September

The spirit of the journey

Discover a more secret West Iceland, between lava fields, waterfalls, mountains and wild coastlines. From Húsafell to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, explore an unspoiled Iceland, far from the well-trodden routes.

Húsafell and the Silver Circle: lava, waterfalls and hot waters

Two nights at Hotel Húsafell, at the heart of wild landscapes, to explore the Silver Circle, more discreet than the famous Golden Circle: the Deildartunguhver hot spring, Reykholt, and the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Descend into Víðgelmir, one of Iceland's most impressive lava tunnels, on a guided tour, then relax at the Krauma geothermal baths, facing the peaceful landscapes of the West.

Snæfellsnes: Iceland in miniature

Heading west, the landscape shifts: mountains, wild coastlines, black sand beaches and fishing villages announce the Snæfellsnes peninsula, often called “Iceland in miniature”. Spend two nights there at Hotel Búðir, facing the ocean, before a kayaking excursion at Grundarfjörður, on calm waters, with Mount Kirkjufell as a backdrop. The outing is accessible to all, beginners included.

A final night in a glass lodge

Before reaching Reykjavík, spend a night at the Panorama Glass Lodge, near Akranes: wide glass walls opening onto the sky and the landscape, a private hot tub surrounded by nature, and the feeling of being alone in the world. A stop in Reykjavík then allows time to wander the capital before heading back towards Keflavík.

An example of a tailor-made 6-day journey, best experienced from June to September. To discover Iceland at nature's own pace, between adventure, open landscapes and moments of disconnection.

Hôtel Husafell

At the heart of the wild landscapes of western Iceland, Hótel Húsafell is an ideal stop for exploring the Borgarfjörður region. Surrounded by mountains, lava fields and glaciers, the hotel offers a peaceful atmosphere, at the heart of nature.

Its contemporary architecture blends unobtrusively into the landscape. The rooms, comfortable and light-filled, favour natural materials and soft tones, with generous openings onto the surrounding scenery.

THE LESSER-KNOWN SILVER CIRCLE

More discreet than the famous Golden Circle, this route reveals another side of Iceland, between geothermal springs, waterfalls, lava fields and villages steeped in history. From Deildartunguhver to the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, by way of Reykholt and the landscapes of Húsafell, each stop reveals the diversity of West Iceland.

An ideal itinerary to take the time to discover a region that remains peaceful and unspoiled.

Explore the depths of Víðgelmir, one of Iceland’s most impressive lava tunnels, on an included guided tour through this striking underground world.

Enjoy a moment of rest at the Krauma geothermal baths, where the warm waters of Deildartunguhver invite relaxation facing the peaceful landscapes of West Iceland.

Silver Circle

In western Iceland, the Silver Circle reveals a still unspoilt region, between geothermal springs, waterfalls, lava fields and glaciers.

The route passes through Deildartunguhver, one of the most powerful hot springs in Europe, then Reykholt, a small village marked by Icelandic history. It continues to the Hraunfossar waterfalls, flowing through an old lava field, and Barnafoss, with its turbulent waters.

Further on, the Húsafell region offers plenty to discover: the geothermal Canyon Baths, the Víðgelmir lava cave, and the Langjökull glacier with its ice tunnels.

A varied and enjoyable route to discover the landscapes of western Iceland, in a more low-key and less frequented region.

Continue west towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Gradually, the landscape shifts, revealing mountains, wild coastlines, black sand beaches and small fishing villages.

Your next stop is Búðir for 2 nights, facing the ocean, at the gateway to a peninsula often called “Iceland in miniature” for the diversity of its landscapes.

Panorama Glass Lodge

At the heart of the wild landscapes of West Iceland, your glass refuge seems to have been delicately set facing the vastness beyond.

Here, nature literally enters your room. Through the wide glass walls, the eye wanders towards the countryside, the mountains and the waters of the Atlantic. A vast landscape, shifting with the light and the whims of the Icelandic sky.

At nightfall, comfortably settled in bed, all that's left to do is look up. In winter, with a little luck, the northern lights will dance overhead; in summer, the endless glow of the midnight sun will wrap the landscape in an almost unreal atmosphere.

Outside, your private hot tub promises wonderful moments of contemplation: the warmth of the water, the crispness of the air, the silence and, before you, a horizon that seems never to end.

An intimate, unusual address, ideal for slowing down and fully savouring the raw beauty of Iceland.

A night suspended between land, ocean and sky, with the wonderful sensation of being alone in the world.

It’s time to leave the wild landscapes of West Iceland behind and head back towards Keflavík.

Along the way, make a final stop in Reykjavík, an opportunity to wander the capital’s streets, have lunch or pick up a few souvenirs before departure.

Reykjavík,

Reykjavík

Allow yourself a few hours to wander through Reykjavík, a human-scaled capital where colourful houses, corrugated-iron façades and welcoming cafés create an atmosphere full of character.

Make your way up Laugavegur, past small shops, Icelandic design and good addresses, to the iconic Hallgrímskirkja, which overlooks the city’s rooftops. Then head back down towards the ocean and follow the waterfront to Sólfar, the famous Sun Voyager sculpture, with the mountains as a backdrop.

Continue on to the glass façades of Harpa, then wander around the Old Harbour, among fishing boats, restaurants and old colourful houses. Take the time to settle into a café, sample a few local specialities, or simply watch the life of this small, sea-facing capital unfold.

A final Icelandic interlude, mild and lively, before heading back towards Keflavík.
