13 days / 11 nights
Mexico City and Teotihuacan
Arrival in Mexico City, grandiose and bustling, in the late afternoon. The night is short, but we take advantage of the jet lag to set off early the next day and reach Teotihuacan while the sun is still low.
It’s the ideal moment to rise slowly above Teotihuacan, whose name curiously means “the place where the gods were created,” or alternatively, “the city where men become gods.” The transformation is underway!
The visit continues on foot across this site discovered by the Aztecs. The heights of the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon give a sense of the scale of this city, the largest in the pre-Columbian world.
Return to the capital for a visit of the historic centre, including the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the cathedral, and the governor’s palace for the murals of Diego Rivera.
The next day, your private guide accompanies you to the Museo Nacional de Antropología for a thorough introduction to your journey. Lunch is planned at Xochimilco, a unique setting of Mexican culture. On the agenda: music, gastronomy and the Mexican joie de vivre.
In the afternoon, a visit to the Frida Kahlo Museum, the Blue House. A stroll through the colourful market of Coyoacán.
In the evening, we have planned to attend a lucha libre match, a genuine popular spectacle and a true institution in Mexico.

Yucatan & Hacienda Santa Rosa
A 1h30 flight between Mexico City and Merida, capital of the Yucatan.
Don’t miss the flyover of Popocatepetl, a magnificent active volcano with a snow-capped crater, watching over its princess Iztaccíhuatl.
Arrival in Merida, where you pick up your rental car, to be returned in Cancun on your departure day. Drive to your hacienda, once a large agricultural estate, a testament to the great era of henequen cultivation, the “green gold” that made the Yucatan’s fortune.
Mayan women dressed in the traditional white dress embroidered with colourful flowers, men wearing their guayabera and sombrero, welcome you — “mi casa es tu casa,” as they say in Mexico… the scene is set!
Welcome to Santa Rosa, our favourite hacienda, intimate and warm, an ideal base from which to explore, at your own pace, the pre-Columbian sites of the Puuc Route, villages and convents, and the Celestun nature reserve, a refuge for pink flamingos.

Chichen Itza
An overnight stop in Chichen Itza is a must. Chichen Itza is the Mexican Eiffel Tower! Unmissable, a World Heritage Site, a Wonder of the World, and for good reason: Chichen is the most visited archaeological site on the continent.
But you’re at the site entrance right at opening time, well before the hordes of buses unload their streams of tourists from Cancun, exceptionally stepping out of their “All Inclusive.”
In the early morning, the site reveals all its charm. From the moment you enter, your eye settles on the perfect design of its flagship monument, El Castillo, each side of which bears a monumental staircase bordered by the feathered serpent, Quetzalcoatl. Chichen Itza stands as a testament to the Maya people’s extraordinary mathematical, astronomical, astrological and calendrical knowledge. The observatory, El Caracol, the ball court, the cenote — it’s all there!

Esencia
The route continues to the Caribbean coast, where you settle in for 4 nights, a beachside pause.
Along the way, a stop at Coba, best explored by bicycle. Its distinctive feature is the Sac Be, paths once used by the Maya for trade. You ride along these trails through the forest, punctuated by sublime ruins — sometimes grandiose, emerging from the jungle; sometimes covered in vegetation as nature reclaims its ground.
Arrival at Esencia.
Originally built as the retreat of an Italian duchess on one of the finest beaches of the Riviera Maya, Esencia has become a luxury refuge, a haven of peace offering high-end, personalised and always discreet service.
