The spirit of the journey

Experience a journey across this fascinating land from the Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Ocean, combining three different modes of transport: train, car, and plane.

Your adventure begins in Anchorage, from where you'll take a cruise through Prince William Sound. After that, head to Denali National Park to observe the wildlife and flora. Fairbanks will then be the historical part of your stay.

From Fairbanks, you'll set off in a small group toward the Arctic. You'll cross the Arctic Circle along the Dalton Highway for a one-night stay in Coldfoot, near the gates of Gates of the Arctic National Park. The scenic road to Prudhoe Bay crosses the Brooks Range as well as the tundra to the north.

The final leg of this adventure takes you to the Inupiat village of Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) for a night on the Arctic Ocean, under the midnight sun.

A rewarding journey filled with encounters, a discovery of Alaska from south to north for the pleasure of your eyes and your camera.

Anchorage
Spend this stay at your own pace. The Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Log Cabin Visitor Center, and other downtown attractions are just steps from your hotel.

You may also take part in optional activities such as flightseeing over Anchorage or a guided hike.

Cruise: Prince William Sound Glacier
Depart from your hotel to take the train to Whittier for a cruise along the glaciers of Prince William Sound. Take in breathtaking scenery, including an abundance of glaciers. The boat stops opposite a glacier, giving you the chance to see and hear a glacier calving (when ice breaks off into the water).

Return to Anchorage.

Denali National Park
You will leave your hotel by coach for Denali National Park.

One-night stay near the park.

Parc national de Denali

Denali National Park sits at the center of Alaska, the US state located at the continent's northwestern tip, bordering Canada.
As large as 4 French départements and designated a “Biosphere Reserve” since 1976, the park offers a breathtaking diversity of landscapes: tundra, taiga, deep valleys, glaciers and peaks rising above 6,000 metres form one of the richest ecosystems in the world. Ferns, mosses, lichens, towering trees — you'll find it all here. If you have the chance to visit Alaska, this exceptional park, embodying the sheer scale of the American continent, is not to be missed.

Naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts alike come to Denali to observe wildlife typical of North America. You can see grizzlies, black bears, caribou, moose, Dall sheep, marmots, and countless bird species, including migratory ones that populate the park at different times of year. An exceptional diversity that will delight any nature lover.

Fairbanks
You will take the train to Fairbanks, Alaska’s second-largest city.

Two-night stay in Fairbanks.

Barrow
Your four days in the Arctic begin today… You will fly to the Inupiat village of Utqiagvik (formerly known as Barrow).
Enjoy free time at the “Top of the World” in the heart of Alaska’s northernmost village. Stay up to witness the midnight sun!

One-night stay in Barrow.

Prudhoe Bay
Fly to Deadhorse. You can visit the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and dip your feet in the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean.

One-night stay in Deadhorse.

Coldfoot
Today begins your 2-day journey along the Dalton Highway. An experienced driver/guide will share a wealth of information about the American Arctic.
You will cross the majestic Brooks Range as well as the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass. Discover the extraordinary tundra of the Arctic coastal plain, right down to feeling the ice wedges just beneath the surface. Watch for grizzly bears and caribou! Spectacular peaks and panoramic views make this a highlight of the journey.

One-night stay in Coldfoot.

Parc national de Gates of the Arctic

Gates of the Arctic National Park, one of the finest wilderness regions in the world, covers more than 34,000 km² and lies entirely north of the Arctic Circle. With the exception of the Dalton Highway, the park is far from any road and home to a single village, Anaktuvuk Pass. Eight other Indigenous communities dot its perimeter, but all have fewer than 400 permanent residents.

Put simply, Gates of the Arctic is a vast wilderness area the size of Switzerland, with no visitor centre and no campgrounds. The park is a true sanctuary for grizzly bears, wolves, Dall sheep, moose, muskoxen, wolverines and more than 145 bird species. The only trails in the park are those formed by the Western Arctic caribou herd, Alaska's largest, numbering around 490,000 animals.
