The spirit of the journey

From Vancouver to Calgary, you will travel across the Canadian West to discover the highlights of British Columbia and Alberta. The highlight of this touring itinerary will be the famous Icefields Parkway, winding through the Rockies between Banff and Jasper National Parks.

Explore the natural beauty of the country as you cross Western Canada from the ocean to the mountains. Turquoise lakes, glaciers, lush forests, snow-capped peaks and waterfalls shape a landscape of ever-present, untamed nature.

You will also observe a varied and abundant wildlife. Elk, caribou, beavers and black bears share the high country, while seals and whales rule the Pacific coast.

This self-drive itinerary is ultimately just one of the many route options Western Canada has to offer. We can adapt it according to the season, your budget and, of course, your own preferences.

VANCOUVER
The main metropolis of western Canada, Vancouver stands out for its superb location between Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River delta.

WHISTLER and GARIBALDI PROVINCIAL PARK
You will spend 2 nights in accommodation set slightly back from the town centre, overlooking Lake Nita, giving you access to Garibaldi Provincial Park. The park’s rich geological history, varied vegetation, snow-capped mountains, iridescent waters, abundant wildlife and striking panoramas make it an essential stop in the region.

CLEARWATER and WELLS GRAY PROVINCIAL PARK
Walk through Wells Gray Provincial Park and discover a subalpine landscape of dwarf trees and fragile vegetation.

JASPER NATIONAL PARK
On the road to Jasper, we recommend stopping at Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, rising to 3,954 metres.

LAKE LOUISE and the ICEFIELDS PARKWAY
Cross the Rockies southward toward the famous Lake Louise along the renowned Icefields Parkway. Considered one of the finest drives in the world, this 230 km stretch of road winds along the continental divide between rocky peaks, icefields and vast valleys. Take in the lakes, glaciers, passes and waterfalls that follow one another along the route between Jasper and Lake Louise. Stop to discover the famous Athabasca Falls, Peyto Lake, Sunwapta Falls, the Athabasca Glacier, and many other sights!

On arrival, further striking discoveries await: Lake Louise and Lake Moraine in particular, sure to rank among your finest memories of the Rockies. Don’t forget to charge your camera batteries.

BANFF NATIONAL PARK
On the road to Banff, stop at the remarkable Johnston Canyon. Carved sheer into limestone rock by thousands of years of water erosion, the spectacular Johnston Canyon is a must-see natural feature of the region.

Parc National de Banff, Région de Banff dans l'Alberta, Canada

Région de Banff dans l'Alberta, Canada

Parc National de Banff

Banff National Park sits at the heart of the Rockies, in southwestern Alberta, 128 km from Calgary. It was named “one of the best destinations to visit in the world in 2017” by the prestigious National Geographic magazine. Expect to fall head over heels from the very first mountain, the very first breath. You'll fall for this region, brimming with treasures each more striking than the last:

Moraine Lake, located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, is considered by some to be the most beautiful spot in the Canadian Rockies.
The Upper Hot Springs pools sit right at the heart of Banff; the water is kept at a temperature of roughly 38°C.
Although it has become a major tourist draw, a stop at Lake Louise for a few photos is a must. With the snow-capped Victoria Glacier in the background, your photos will rival the finest postcards.
40 kilometres north of Banff, after a short fifteen-minute hike, a spectacular view awaits at Peyto Lake. Accessible from the Icefield Parkway, the trail leads to a truly remarkable viewpoint.

CALGARY
For your final stop, visit Calgary, made famous by its rodeo festival, the Stampede. The city gained international recognition in 1988 when it hosted the Winter Olympics. Discover a city set at the edge of the plains and the mountains, with strong western influences. Nose Hill Park is well worth a detour, if only for the view it offers over downtown. This pleasant wilderness area, located in the northwest of the city, is one of the largest urban parks in North America. Walk or cycle along the extensive network of trails laid out across this park of more than 10 square kilometres, stop for a picnic and take in the view.
