Travel extension to Sainte-Marie, departing from Antananarivo
SAINTE MARIE ISLAND
From July to late September, Sainte Marie serves as a base for scientific expeditions to observe and study whales.
These giant mammals migrate from Antarctica, coming to breed and give birth in the waters off Sainte-Marie Island every winter: the climate here is one that females seem to find ideal for raising their calves.
They leave once their calves are ready to withstand the cold of the southern ocean.
It’s a fascinating sight when they leap out of the water while playing with their young.
They measure up to 18 metres long, weigh up to 30 tonnes, and feed on marine algae.
In this example, you will spend 3 nights at the 4-star Princesse Bora Lodge, with 3 boat trips to observe humpback whales.
A charming 3-star hotel option is also available, depending on your budget.
