Sleeping Under the Stars in Africa

Few experiences embody the magic of Africa as intensely.
Here, night is not merely a time for rest: it becomes a living spectacle, total immersion in a grandiose landscape, punctuated by the distant sounds of the savannah (sometimes very close…) and the infinite vault of a star-studded sky.
Falling asleep in the open air means reconnecting with the essential. It means feeling the cool wind of the Namib desert, listening to the murmur of Hwange’s nocturnal animals, and waking to the first golden light of the African dawn. A rare experience, intimate and profoundly disorienting in the best sense.
We invite you to discover our selection of 5 “sleepouts” and “starbeds” across the continent.
Five exceptional places to experience your African safari differently, at the very heart of nature… and the stars.

SOUTH AFRICA – Chalkley House at Lion Sands
Above the bush, in a refuge suspended between sky and earth. Perched on the platform where Guy Aubrey Chalkley once found his salvation while escaping predators, it embodies the thrill and intimacy of the African bush.

NAMIBIA – Wolwedans Desert Sleepout
The evening begins with dinner in the dunes, as the golden light of sunset enhances the terrain and stretches shadows as far as the eye can see. Then comes the moment to settle into your Star Bed, entirely open to the vastness. Here, no light pollution alters the experience: the site, recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association, offers an exceptionally pure sky, among the most impressive in the world for stargazing.

TANZANIA – Flycamp at Katavi
Here, you move far from everything to enter a world entirely ruled by nature. Accompanied by experienced guides, you leave the main camp to reach an isolated site, chosen for its beauty and harmony with the surroundings. The camp, discreet and perfectly integrated, offers simple yet carefully considered comfort: lightweight tents, comfortable beds, a safari shower, and a campfire for dinner under the stars.
A rare experience, between adventure and elegance, for an authentic connection to nature.

ZAMBIA – Star Drift at Chiawa Camp
It all begins at sunset. A private dinner served on a boat gliding slowly along the Zambezi… The light turns golden and a (relative) silence settles in. Then comes the moment to climb into the Star Drift, an open sleeping tower set facing the river.
A hot bath awaits you, lit by an infinite sky of almost unreal clarity. The sounds of Africa come alive: hippopotamuses, amphibians, distant rustlings… You don’t really sleep. You feel the African night.

ZIMBABWE – Linkwasha Sleepout
Alone, or nearly so. Connected to the camp team by radio, you are immersed in a living environment, unfiltered. The heavy footfall of an elephant, the breath of the wind, the distant call of a hyena in the darkness…
Time seems to stand still.
You are in Africa.
