Set off on an unforgettable volcanic ascent at the heart of Mgahinga National Park.
Accompanied by an expert guide, choose one of the three emblematic volcanoes to climb according to your stamina and appetite for exploration.
. Mount Gahinga (3,400 m), with its perfectly conical summit, offers an accessible trail through former farmland and a vast bamboo forest. You’ll encounter exceptional birdlife, including colourful sunbirds. The ascent and descent take around six hours.
. Mount Sabinyo (3,669 m), with its five jagged peaks, takes you through a spectacular landscape between tropical forest and alpine zone. The climb is demanding, with eucalyptus ladders to scale the steep slopes, but the panoramic view over Rwanda and Uganda makes it worthwhile. This trek takes around eight hours for a 14 km round trip.
. Mount Muhavura (4,129 m), the highest and most challenging of the three, will test your endurance with its steep slopes and thin air. Its summit, often wreathed in cloud, holds a small crater lake and offers a spectacular view over the region. The ascent takes seven hours, followed by a five-hour descent.
Prepare yourself for a demanding but unforgettable adventure!
