The Ishasha sector lies at the far southwest of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda's most popular and most visited park. This region offers a landscape in sharp contrast to the rest of the park, with broad open plains and majestic fig trees.
Ishasha is best known for its tree-climbing lions, a rarity on a global scale. These unusual cats spend much of the day perched on the branches of fig trees, a fascinating behaviour that remains poorly understood. The males of this population are also distinguished by their black manes, adding to their mystique.
Witnessing this spectacle is an unforgettable experience: seeing the king of beasts stretched out nonchalantly on a branch, scanning the horizon or dozing in the shade of the foliage, is a scene both majestic and intriguing, unique to the Ishasha sector.
