À vivre

Pisac is a village in the Sacred Valley built on pre-Columbian foundations. While the town square is often the hub of activity in the area, it's the town's colorful market and craft stalls that are best known. Wandering through it, you can try wood-fired bread rolls, a local specialty, round out your collection of everyday utensils, or simply get a taste of what's to come on your journey.

At the top of the surrounding hill stands the Inca archaeological complex overlooking the town. Seen from a distance, the narrow terraces aligned below it form the shape of a “pisaca” (a type of partridge), a bird once abundant on the site in Inca times, which gave the area its name.
The ruins are divided into four parts: a religious section (housing the astronomical observatory and the solar clock), two residential areas, and a military section (where food was stored and where the Inca cemetery is located).
Walking through royal buildings, terraces, tunnels and towers in the late afternoon, take in the finest Inca architecture as the sun sets behind the peaks.
