The recent fires in Brazil and the deforestation that will follow are a disaster for biodiversity in the Amazon and the Pantanal.
While the decisions or behaviour of some are irresponsible, we should welcome the fact that other Brazilian — and more broadly South American — economic players are playing a crucial role. Their initiatives are remarkable and deserve our support.
Through their Foundations, Ibitipoca and Awasi are perfect examples of what tourism should be today: respectful of the environment, taking concrete action to preserve biodiversity, and mindful of the well-being of local communities.
Because everything is connected.
