At the end of your trip, you will head to the Musandam peninsula.
After a flight from Muscat to Dubai followed by a 2-hour transfer to the peninsula, you will take a winding, steep road, grazed by goats, before catching a striking view: the resort below, set in a pristine bay, home to the fishing village of Zighy Bay.
Other ways to reach the resort:
– paragliding descent: guaranteed adrenaline!
– arrival by boat, another way to take in the magnificent fjords of this appendage of the Arabian peninsula.
Moored along the silvery ocean shore, the hotel seems to emerge from the belly of the mountain. In the restored order of traditional dwellings, wood clads the roofs while rammed earth and stone cover the walls. With its terraces and narrow lanes, the place has the charm of a village of old. The hotel stretches along a 1.6km sand beach, in an exceptional setting between sea and mountain.
The Six Senses brand, deeply committed to the fight against climate change and mindful of all things ecological, built the entire hotel using local materials so as not to alter this exceptional site. The village thus consists of small one- or two-storey stone houses, set along the 1.6km-long beach. A tower, along with a rammed-earth building, faithfully reproduce the forts found throughout the Omani landscape, bordered by palm and fig trees. Here is one of the most unusual sites in the world, now open to you!
The hotel has no rooms as such, only “villas”, each equipped with a private pool and decorated in “eco-chic” style. They are arranged over 2 or 3 rows, like the houses of a local village.
The resort features 6 quality restaurants and bars.
The Sense on the Edge and its bar, Drink on the Edge, both with panoramic views, offer a unique culinary experience. Perched on the mountainside at 293m altitude, they overlook the entire bay, giving a sense of being at “the edge of the world”.
Wine lovers should not miss The Cellar, an excellent wine cellar offering tastings and themed dinners, such as “Haute Couture Wines” evenings or “Wine and Cheese” nights.
The Zighy Bar overlooks the main pool and serves cocktails and refreshing drinks at all hours.
Although every villa has its own private pool, a magnificent pool with a river and small waterfalls evoking an oasis completes the hotel’s facilities. The private white-sand beach, nearly 2 km long and fitted with loungers and parasols, is equally remarkable.
A fully equipped gym along with a tennis court, badminton court and volleyball court (all free of charge) will delight the more sporty guests.
Numerous free, non-motorised water activities are also available: sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, snorkelling, and more.
Among the paid activities, a fully equipped dive centre has set up at the nearby marina, offering PADI courses, nitrox dives, and more. Indeed, the Musandam peninsula is world-renowned for its dive sites, often compared to the Maldives, yet far less crowded.
A microlight also offers 20-minute tandem flights with a pilot, soaring above the bay for a breathtaking view of the neighbouring fjords.
Finally, no account of Six Senses Zighy Bay would be complete without mentioning its beautiful spa, which includes 9 treatment rooms and 2 Arabian hammams inspired by local ancestral traditions.
A wide range of body massages and facial treatments is on offer.
