Reads for Little Globe-Trotters

Here are a few books I particularly like for introducing children to the world and its diversity through reading:

What if you lived in the desert, on the ice floes, on a Pacific island, in the jungle… Children can genuinely imagine living in each of these environments, so different from their own, thanks to the narrative approach: a child recounts their daily life. Striking illustrations, by a different illustrator each time, immerse the reader in the exotic world evoked.

A first atlas that, beyond its maps of the world and continents, presents each continent in turn through a handful of landmark countries.

The “Le Tour du Monde” collection from Milan Jeunesse offers beautifully photographed books, revealing exotic landscapes and how children live elsewhere in the world.

This collection of book-and-CD sets introduces world music through a story paired with original, high-quality music composed by a musician from the country or continent in question. “Timbélé et la Reine Lune”, for instance, features music composed by Touré Kunda. Each instrument is presented in detail at the end of the CD and in the final pages of the book.
