ZIMBABWE 2019, scouting trip

Journey to Zimbabwe, July 2019

By Laurent Guillot, Founder of Etendues Sauvages.

“Zimbabwe holds a very particular place for me, Mana Pools especially. So I was delighted to return there this past July, after far too many years’ absence (the world is vast…).
I found a place still as pristine and authentic as ever, well off the beaten track.
Very dry due to the lack of rainfall that has affected all of Southern Africa for several years now, Kariba and Mana Pools remain nonetheless quite remarkable.
Of course, animal density is lower than in Botswana or Zambia, for instance, and one shouldn’t fixate on the number of leopards, wild dogs or other predators to be seen in these two national parks. But what a thrill it is to approach elephants, wild dogs or buffalo on foot. All of it in highly exclusive conditions. Here, as elsewhere, luck still has to be on your side to witness – and photograph – spectacular or unusual scenes of animal life!
