Take the time to escape time itself, walking from lodge to lodge through the Incas’ Sacred Valley.
Nothing better to forget European frenzy.
At over 3,000 meters above sea level, you walk among the gods, with the discovery of the mythical Machu Picchu as the journey’s final revelation. The treks (5- to 7-day formulas with 4 to 5 hours of walking daily) take you into the most secret valleys bordering the Inca Trail, where indigenous communities introduce you to the mysteries of their culture. Visiting the grand ruins of the Inca temples at Ollantaytambo, you may well recall the scene from Prisoners of the Sun where Tintin narrowly escapes being burned at the stake.
In the evening, settled quietly on your lodge’s terrace, your mind will likely empty of everything — except for watching the sun set over the Andes.
