On September 28th, after a widely noted maiden voyage to the geographic North Pole, Ponant inaugurated its new high-exploration polar vessel, the Commandant Charcot, in Le Havre.
We had the chance to visit the ship in preview and spent a night on board during its stopover in Le Havre.
Of course the ship is magnificent, its comfort, interior light, and multiple spaces are exceptional. Of course the service on board and the table with signature dishes by Alain Ducasse live up to their promise of excellence. For all these reasons, the Commandant Charcot is a true gem.
But it is above all the never-before-offered experiences and technological advances that caught our attention. Without making it a zero-carbon ship, Ponant has set the bar very high environmentally — becoming the benchmark for future cruise ships.
We can be proud that this ship was designed in France and sails under the French flag, bearing the name of one of the world’s most renowned polar scientists and explorers, Commandant Jean-Baptiste Charcot.
Welcome aboard!
In a few days, the Emperor Penguins of Bellingshausen will open its Antarctic season. The ship will then head to Charcot and Pierre-1er islands, the Weddell Sea and the Larsen ice shelves, the Ross Sea, and the South Sandwich Islands.
An exceptional program of polar expeditions aboard a ship that is no less exceptional!
