The Rhinos of Matobo National Park

This photo of a white rhino was taken in August 1998 in Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe.
Since then, many events — often appalling ones — have unfolded in this remarkable country.
But the Stead family, owners of the Amalinda concession for over twenty-six years, has stayed the course and found the energy to keep welcoming guests, through every hardship encountered.

It’s the least we can do to pay tribute to these passionate hosts and introduce you to Amalinda. An atypical lodge, with cave-style rooms and a pool carved directly into the rock. All of it seamlessly integrated into its surroundings.
Here, there’s no ostentatious luxury — just a warm welcome and a generous table. Much like the owners themselves.
The Amalinda Private Villa, meanwhile, offers greater exclusivity and a higher level of comfort for more demanding travelers.

The Matopos remain Zimbabwe’s prime site for observing white and black rhinos on 4×4 or walking safaris. And then there are these hills, where every rock plays a balancing act, offering one of the finest panoramas in southern Africa.
Cecil Rhodes, founder of Rhodesia, knew it well. For over a century now, he has rested atop one of the hills overlooking the region — a place he named “View of the World”.
A fitting name, as you’ll discover for yourself at sunset!
