Gaucho, or the Art of Being Free

Being a gaucho is a philosophy of life built on courage, honour and freedom. Their life is an ode to simplicity and resilience.
The gaucho knows no borders, no limits, yet he holds to certain essential principles: respect, love of his land, and affection for his horse. Silent guardian of the pampa’s vast expanses, he rides tirelessly, in perfect harmony with nature. Free.

A way of life we like to convey through the journeys we design in Argentina.

Here are our favourite Estancias for your next tailor-made journey in Argentina!

ESTANCIA CRISTINA – Argentine Patagonia

Estancia Cristina, Argentine

Estancia Cristina, Argentina

One of our great favourites in Argentine Patagonia.
Founded in 1914 by Joseph Percival Master, Estancia Cristina stands out for its beauty and isolation. Set within Los Glaciares National Park, with exclusive access to the most striking view of the Upsala Glacier, Cristina guarantees an unforgettable stay in glacier country.

DID YOU KNOW?
The term “Criollo horse” refers to a horse belonging to the land it stands on. The word “gaucho” evokes at once the countryman, the lover, the loner and the orphan. Taming wild horses, braving storms and protecting livestock from predators are their daily challenges. They are the protective guardians of the pampa’s age-old secrets. Once nomadic, they have become more settled today, raising livestock within estancias — large farms, in other words, across Argentina.

NIBEPO AIKE – Argentine Patagonia

This estancia preserves the essence of Patagonia’s old ranches. Surrounded by vastness, Nibepo Aike offers a genuine immersion in the traditional life of the region’s herders. It combines rustic charm with warm hospitality, making it an ideal place to disconnect. It is also the perfect starting point for reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier.

GAUCHO FESTIVALS
Gauchos are not merely figures of the past. They are a living tradition. Their music, dance and cuisine stand as vivid testimonies to their rich cultural heritage. Various festivals are held to honour this culture and way of life. Each year, two major gatherings bring together gauchos from across Argentina, in Areco (near Buenos Aires) and in Salta (in Argentina’s Northwest).

LA BAMBA DE ARECO – Buenos Aires Region
